Austin's Priorities

Austin wants to continue and strengthen partnerships with sheriffs, police, and prosecutors to ensure criminals are held accountable.

Prosecuting crimes against young victims to the fullest extent of the law, protecting rural communities, and defending South Dakota’s way of life from federal overreach.

47% of inmates are incarcerated for violent crimes, most of which are related to drugs, 28% of inmates are incarcerated for drug offenses, and 90% of inmates were found to have substance abuse issues upon intake. 

Implementing smart policies to reduce repeat offenders and help offenders successfully reintegrate into society.
